Die Skaband THE TOASTERS ist eine Institution und wird vom legendären New Yorker CBGB Club zu ihren besten 20 Bands gezählt. Gegründet wurde sie in der New Yorker Lower East Side 1981 von Robert „Bucket“ Hingley, der bis heute Kopf der Band ist. Seitdem haben THE TOASTERS neun Studioalben und zahlreiche EPs und Singles herausgebracht, viele davon auf dem eigenen Label „Moon Ska Records“. Sie gelten als Begründer der Ska-Explosion der 90er in den USA und haben dabei ihren eigenen Stil entwickelt. Damit beeinflussten sie viele weitere Bands der Folgejahre.
4 DECADES IN SKA
“In my opinion, The Toasters are to ska in America in the 1980s and beyond what The Specials were to ska in the U.K. in the late ’70s and early ’80s, and what the Skatalites were to ska in Jamaica in the 1960s. The Toasters were innovators, creators, shapers of the music, evolving it in a fresh direction, blending it with the cultural influences in a very American manner, and I mean that in a completely complimentary way. Just as Byron Lee & the Dragonaires brought professionalism and polish to ska, allowing others to benefit from the fruits of their labor, so too did the Toasters‘ music allow numerous other bands to share in the spotlight of skill and success, many of whom have gone on to great heights. Nach über vier Dekaden treten THE TOASTERS noch immer unvermindert aufs Gas, touren weiterhin durch die Welt und kommen jetzt erstmalig am 17. Juni auf die Gauklerfest-Bühne am Alter Markt in Attendorn.
